Sajini Dickmadugoda is a biotechnologist and science policy and research management professional with experience in science policy analysis, national research and innovation systems, science governance, stakeholder engagement, and international science, technology and innovation collaborations. She currently works as a Research Officer at the National Science & Technology Commission of Sri Lanka (NASTEC).
She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology from the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nilai University, Malaysia, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bedfordshire, United Kingdom, with her dissertation focused on sustainable business models for the strategic monetization and the commercialization of biotechnological R&D.
Her research background reflects a strong interdisciplinary foundation in applied biotechnology, spanning antimicrobial plant-based systems, green materials, and bio-based innovations, integrated with science policy analysis, work reflected in multiple peer-reviewed publications and national technical reports.
Sajini has further strengthened her foundation in climate and sustainability work through certifications from United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on climate action, gender equality, and green fiscal policy, and trainings from Maastricht University and United Nations University (UNU) along with multiple international trainings.
Her dedication to community extends beyond her academic and professional capacity; she has organized multiple corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives centered on community outreach, knowledge dissemination, and sustainability awareness, and more recently represented Sri Lanka at the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation on Youth Vision for the Future of the World, organized by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth (SDSN Youth), contributing to regional dialogue on inclusive and youth-driven approaches to sustainable development.
Across these experiences, she brings a distinctive synthesis of scientific depth, policy knowledge, and grassroots organizing experience to advocate for evidence-based climate solutions and bridge research with actionable policy across Sri Lanka and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
