Climate Restoration Ambassador

To the People of the Earth:
I want to be an Ambassador for the Climate Restoration Alliance because I see climate restoration as an important complement to mitigation and adaptation and one that needs to be connected much more strongly to climate justice. My work over nearly three decades has focused on inclusive development and climate finance, resilience, sustainability and loss and damage. This has reinforced my conviction that addressing the climate crisis cannot be limited to reducing future emissions, as we need to also restore ecological systems and protect natural assets on which climate-vulnerable communities depend.
I would bring to the Alliance a perspective shaped by both international policy and practical programme experience. I have worked with governments, multilateral institutions, development organizations and civil society, including on climate finance, country programming, results management, environmental and social safeguards, and gender equality and inclusion. I have also written and spoken internationally on climate justice (including loss and damage), advocating for a more holistic understanding of the economic and non-economic dimensions of climate impacts.
As an Ambassador, I would use my networks, strategic policy experience and thought leadership to help broaden the conversation around climate restoration, particularly by connecting restoration with climate finance, resilience, sustainable development and the needs of countries and communities most impacted by the climate crisis. I would also like to help bring restoration into mainstream policy and financing discussions, rather than treating it as a separate environmental agenda.
For me, the opportunity is ultimately about helping build a stronger bridge between climate action, ecological restoration and justice and ensuring that restoration contributes to a more resilient and equitable future.

The Mission To Restore Earth Has Begun

Climate Restoration Brief #1: Introducing Climate Restoration
Everyone wants to restore a safe climate — one that humans have actually survived long-term. In this “pre-industrial” climate, which allowed us to develop agriculture and thriving civilizations, atmospheric CO2 never rose above 300 parts per million (ppm). Today, CO2 levels are 420 ppm. Yet now we know how to bring CO2 back down to pre-industrial levels—and could do so by 2050.

Climate Restoration Brief #2: Ocean Restoration
Ocean iron fertilization (OIF) appears to be the fastest, safest and most effective climate restoration solution although it was controversial for a time. OIF restores fisheries and other marine life while also reducing CO2 levels at the scale needed to restore the climate. It requires little or no public funding: instead, the process produces revenue … Read More "Rajib Ghosal"

Climate Restoration Brief #3: Synthetic Limestone
Restoring the climate requires removing and storing a trillion tons of legacy CO2 by 2050. Nature has stored 99 percent of all the CO2 on earth in the form of limestone, made of calcium and CO2 by shellfish and other marine organisms.1 Nearly half carbon dioxide by weight, limestone is an ideal, permanent storage system for this greenhouse gas.

Climate Restoration Breif #4: Seaweed
Restoring our climate will require pulling a trillion tons of legacy carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2050. Farming seaweed, mainly fast-growing kelp and sargassum, can help achieve climate restoration. Click to download the PDF.

Climate Restoration Brief #5: Atmospheric Methane Removal
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that causes about 1/3 of today’s global warming. Using Enhanced Atmospheric Methane Oxidation (EAMO), we can accelerate these processes and reduce atmospheric methane to pre-industrial levels. This could rewind warming back to 2002 levels by 2050 and protect humanity from catastrophic levels of melting permafrost. Click here to download … Read More "Rajib Ghosal"

Climate Restoration: The Only Future That Will Sustain the Human Race
More and more people are realizing: Even if we reach net zero by 2050, or stay “well under” 2°C of warming, our survival will still be in serious doubt. That’s because there are already a trillion tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. This “legacy” CO2, emitted over the last 200 years, will continue to wreak havoc in our world—whether or not we decrease future emissions to near-zero.
