AZA – Arid Zone Afforestation NPO is a Greece‑based non‑profit focused on afforestation and reforestation in arid, semi‑arid and desert regions, developing long‑term “perpetual afforestations” where rainfall is scarce or highly seasonal. Using its proprietary SAFE TREE system, AZA establishes tree cover without ongoing irrigation by creating favorable micro‑conditions around saplings, supporting climate mitigation, ecosystem restoration, and local livelihoods. The organization is led by founder and engineer Athanasios Vasileiadis, who serves as General Manager.
By signing the Climate Restoration Resolution on 11 May 2026, AZA has formally joined the Climate Restoration Movement, positioning its dryland afforestation projects—in places such as the Commune of Simiri in Niger—as practical climate‑restoration interventions that combat desertification, protect soils, and offer communities a pathway out of poverty and malnutrition.
