OIF Consortium: A Collaborative Hub for Advancing Ocean Iron Fertilization

The OIF Consortium is an informal and highly collaborative forum of Ocean Iron Fertilization (OIF) implementers dedicated to advancing the science, deployment, and governance of OIF as a scalable climate restoration solution. It is arguably the only known scalable solution. The Startling Math of Ocean Iron Fertilization

This consortium serves as a knowledge-sharing hub, bringing together experts, organizations, and practitioners who are actively working on OIF projects worldwide. Through regular meetings and open collaboration, members share critical insights, best practices, and resources to accelerate responsible and effective OIF implementation.

Key Areas of Collaboration:

    • Environmental Impact Assessment – Developing a common EIA for OIF projects which can be modified for specific locations, and framed for actual stakeholders: nations and funders.

    • Patents & Inventions – Sharing intellectual property to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

    • Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Methodologies – Establishing standardized approaches for tracking carbon sequestration and ecosystem impact. To assure funders and regulators that the funds are measurably and safely restoring atmospheric CO2 levels.

    • OIF Protocol Development – Collaborating on best practices, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks for safe and effective deployment.

    • Marketing & Public Engagement – Crafting strategies to communicate the benefits of OIF to policymakers, investors, and the public.

    • Crisis Communication – Preparing coordinated responses to misinformation and addressing concerns about OIF transparently.

    • Fundraising & Revenue-Generation Approaches – Exploring sustainable funding models, including carbon credit markets and investment mechanisms.

The OIF Consortium is not a regulatory body but a collective of practitioners committed to responsible and results-driven OIF implementation. By working together, members accelerate the safe implementation of financially viable, proven-safe large-scale ocean-based CO₂ removal. This is to achieve the urgent goal of restoring atmospheric CO₂ to safe levels.
